International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, you are invited to discover the story of Max Fuchs, a Jewish man born in present-day Poland, who went into hiding in Brussels during the Second World War. You will learn how and why Fuch’s personal documents and photos from this period recently became part of the House of European History’s collection. Join us on a guided tour highlighting personal accounts, some tragic and some more hopeful, as displayed in our exhibition, and hear guest speakers reflect on stories of rescue and resistance from across Europe and the ways they can be researched and shared.
The guided tour in French and English starts at 17.30, followed at 18.00 by a screening of the documentary movie Gestures of Resistance and a panel discussion in English on "Saving lives during the Second World War" at 19.00.

Gestures of Resistance connects the personal testimonies of some of the last survivors of the Holocaust from Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia through their presentations of antifascist resistance in its various aspects - armed resistance, civil and political resistance, art, solidarity – and uses these personal stories to inquire further into their relevance in today´s society.
